This announcement comes as part of PDG’s broader strategy to expand its data center footprint across Asia, with planned investments in India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Princeton Digital Group (PDG) has announced an expansion plan for its operations in India. The company aims to increase its data center capacity in the country to 230 MW, supported by an investment of around $1 billion. This move is part of  it’s larger $5 billion initiative to develop AI-ready data centers across Asia.

As part of the expansion, the company’s flagship Mumbai campus, MU1, will see the addition of three new buildings, tripling its existing capacity to 150 MW. The first phase of this 100 MW expansion is expected to be completed by 2026. Upon completion, the MU1 campus will span approximately 15 acres, making it one of the largest data center campuses in the region. In addition to its Mumbai operations, the company is expanding into Chennai, another major cloud infrastructure hub in India. The new 72 MW campus, named CH1, will be located in the northern part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area, home to some of the world’s leading hyperscalers.

Built over 9.3 acres, the CH1 facility will be designed to support future scalability. Both the MU1 and CH1 campuses are designed to be AI-ready, with high-density deployments and advanced cooling technologies. PDG’s Managing Director for India, Vipin Shirsat, noted that Mumbai and Chennai are prime locations for AI infrastructure due to their proximity to submarine cable landings, reliable power supply, and renewable energy availability. Sustainability remains a key focus, with the company aiming to power approximately 50% of its Mumbai operations with renewable energy. The company is also exploring hybrid cooling solutions to enhance both sustainability and operational efficiency.

Rangu Salgame, Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder of PDG, emphasized the importance of India in the company’s growth strategy, particularly in light of the rapid rise of AI. “India is well positioned to be a global AI leader, and we are determined to play a key role in that journey,” he stated.
