OpenAI is looking to collaborate with Indian developers and product leaders to address complex challenges in AI development.
OpenAI, ChatGPT parent, is making strategic moves to deepen its engagement with the developer community in India. Jason Kwon, the Chief Strategy Officer of OpenAI, announced at the Economic Times Now Global Business Summit in New Delhi that the company plans to host several developer summits across India throughout the year.
Kwon highlighted India’s potential to be a global leader in AI, citing the country’s history of technological innovation and ambition to compete internationally. OpenAI is looking to collaborate with Indian developers and product leaders to address complex challenges in AI development. The company recognizes the significance of the Indian market, as India has the second-highest number of ChatGPT users, accounting for 9.08 per cent of the tool’s over 180 million global users.
OpenAI’s engagement in India began earlier this year when Srinivas Narayanan, Vice President of Engineering at OpenAI, interacted with developers in Bengaluru on January 5. Kwon also emphasised the importance of safety in AI research and development. OpenAI is investing in technologies and forming partnerships to enhance the safety of its AI tools and is working with governments to develop regulatory frameworks.
To navigate India’s evolving AI policy landscape, OpenAI appointed Rishi Jaitly, a former Vice President at X, as a senior advisor last year. Jaitly’s extensive executive experience will provide valuable guidance to OpenAI as it expands its presence in the Indian AI ecosystem.
