Google promises quicker building times, improved privacy, and deeper insights with its new open source program.

Google has introduced its new Open Health Stack collection of open source parts to hasten the creation of digital health solutions. Standards, security, and cutting-edge analytics are its main priorities.

The Check Up with Google Health 2023 event was presented by Google yesterday on YouTube and featured some of the company’s key personalities, including Dr. Karen DeSalvo, chief health officer. The new Open Health Stack programme was one of the topics covered by the participants. With the use of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards, it intends to enable developers to create health-related applications. It is the most recent HL7 standard for creating cutting-edge, patient-focused healthcare applications.

The programme provides developers with access to the Android FHIR SDK as well as a design manual to facilitate and speed up the development of their apps. Developers can use the provided set of building blocks to create their own solutions using Open Health Stack, which is not a managed service. On the programme, Google has also worked with the World Health Organization and a group of engineers.

This is not the first time Google has entered the healthcare industry. The business highlighted a variety of topics at the previous event, including Fitbit’s assistance for heart health, the most recent COVID-19 developments on Google Search, and two new initiatives to make healthcare more widely available.

“OHS has been designed to address the needs of developers building digital health solutions for health workers who often operate in areas with poor connectivity. Solutions built using OHS components can support any kind of healthcare program, and through our collaboration with the World Health Organization, OHS based solutions are able to run the WHO Smart Guidelines content that makes evidence based care easy to deploy,” says the company when asked about its use cases.
