GitHub has made some of its core premium features free for everyone. It said that an organisation can now make private repositories for development without paying any fees.

Though GitHub has always been free to use non-paying customers could only store their code in a public repository that’s accessible to everyone. But the announcement from Chief Executive Nat Friedman indicates that developers have to no longer pay to use GitHub’s private repositories.

Reduction in the price of it’s paid Team plan

Friedman wrote in a blog post, “Until now if your organisation wanted to use GitHub for private development, you had to subscribe to one of our paid plans. But every developer on earth should have access to GitHub. Price should not be a barrier.”

He added, “This means teams can now manage their work together in one place: CI/CD, project management, code review, packages, and more. We want everyone to be able to ship great software on the platform developers love.”

The company also said that it is reducing the price of it’s paid Team plan from $9 per user/month to $4 per user/month, effective immediately. Existing customers will have their bills automatically reduced going forward.
