Blackboard Plans To Sell Open Source LMS Platform To LTG For $32 Million

As per a report by Educationdive, Blackboard has announced that it plans to sell its Open learning management system (LMS) to London-based Learning Technologies Group Plc (LTG). The report said that the valuation of this deal is $31.7 million. Blackboard’s chief learning and innovation officer, Phillip Miller, will lead the Open LMS business at LTG as a part of the deal.

Software-as-a-service platform based on Moodle

As per the report, open LMS is a software-as-a-service platform based on Moodle. Moodle is an open source LMS. Blackboard will continue to give existing Open LMS clients access to its products that integrate with the platform. This will include tools to help provide classes and make course content more accessible.

The report added that LTG said that the acquisition is a significant step towards growing its position in the Moodle marketplace. It also said that the company which is focused on educational technologies for the workplace will ensure to protect students’ data privacy.
