  • It is a part of the bank’s mission to making technology accessible to everyone says the company
  • The kit will allow anybody like iOS contributors, spanning developers, designers, testers and product owners to audit the accessibility of the app

According to a report by Zdnet, UBank has released an open source accessibility kit on Github. It will help iOS app developers and contributors to improve the accessibility for users with issues like low vision, cognitive impairment, or neurological impairment said the report.

Peter O’Malley, UBank digital banking chief product officer told Zdnet that making the accessibility kit openly available is a part of the bank’s mission to making technology accessible to everyone. He added that nothing like this is available in the market. There is no easy tool available for developers or contributors to make the apps more accessible.

Audit the accessibility of the app

The report said that O’Malley added that accessing the kit will allow anybody like iOS contributors, spanning developers, designers, testers and product owners to audit the accessibility of the app. Users can check features like colour contrast levels, label structure and whether it is appropriately worded to have features like voice-over.

O’Malley told Zdnet that the way this will work is that it will create an overlay over the user’s app. It will then point out where one meets the accessibility criteria, where one has some work to do and where one can make some improvements.
