ADLINK Technology will work on establishing an Edge AI Working Group with fellow TSC members

ADLINK Technology, a leading provider of edge computing solutions, has joined the ROS 2 Technical Steering Committee (TSC) to contribute in building an open source robotics ecosystem.

The Robot Operating System (ROS) is the world’s leading open source resource for roboticists. It is one of the two open source products offered by Open Robotics, an independent non-profit organization founded by members of the global robotics community.

The ROS 2 TSC was launched in Sept. 2018 to broaden participation in ROS 2 development and accelerate ROS 2 delivery. The ROS 2 TSC sets the technical direction for open robotics and is made of organizations actively contributing to the development and success of ROS 2.

Current members include Amazon, Arm, Bosch, Intel, LG Electronics, among others.

“ROS 2 is the future of robots, autonomous vehicles and industrial automation. It will be everywhere,” says Joe Speed, ADLINK Technology Field CTO, ROS 2 TSC representative and OMG board member.

ADLINK’s contributions to the ROS 2 TSC

As a member of TSC, ADLINK will focused on:

  • ROS Middleware (RMW) improvements for flexibility & performance via OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS) capabilities & best practices.
  • ROS 2 contributions for open source Eclipse Cyclone DDS, an open source Eclipse IoT project that is suited for autonomous mobile robots (AMR), and open source Vortex OpenSplice for large, complex systems.
  • Working to establish an Edge AI Working Group with fellow TSC members and contributing deep expertise in edge AI for machine vision.

“We’re excited by ADLINK’s contributions and to have them join the ROS 2 TSC. Their contributions will help enable our vision of an open source robotics ecosystem,” said Brian Gerkey, CEO of Open Robotics.

Open Robotics aims to support the development, distribution and adoption of open source software for use in robotics research, education and product development.

The organisation offers two open source products: Robot Operating System (ROS) and Gazebo. ROS is a set of open source software libraries and tools that help you build robot applications. Developers can program their robots with ROS and simulate them with Gazebo.
