By joining Linux Foundation, Uber will help in the mission of Linux Foundation to create ecosystems that boost development of open source technology
Uber, an active and committed member of open source community, announced that it is joining the non-profit technology consortium Linux Foundation as a Gold Member, to continue its commitment to use and contribute to open-source tools.
Thuan Pham, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Uber, said in a blog post, “Open source technology is the backbone of many of Uber’s core services and as we continue to mature, these solutions will become ever more important.”
“The Linux Foundation not only provides homes to many significant open source projects, but also creates an open environment for companies like Uber to work together on developing these technologies. We are honored to join the Linux Foundation to foster greater collaboration with the open source community,” he added.
Support development of open source
By joining Linux Foundation, Uber will help in the mission of Linux Foundation to create ecosystems that boost development of open source technology. Uber will continue to work together with the community and other leaders in the open source space in solving complex technical problems and to further promote adoption of open source worldwide.
While welcoming Uber into the fold, Jim Zemlin, Executive Director, Linux Foundation said, “Their expertise will be instrumental for our projects as we continue to advance open solutions for cloud native technologies, deep learning, data visualisation and other technologies that are critical to businesses today.”
Foe a long time, Uber has been making use of open source platforms in its core tools and working on more than 320 open source projects and repositories from 1,500 contributors that involves more than 70,000 commits, as per the company’s data.
Linux Foundation supports numerous open-source projects and provide an organisational structure for organisations such as Uber to contribute and maintain projects related to open source.
