Linux Lite creator Jerry Bezencon has shipped Linux kernel 4.12 for users. The distro based on Ubuntu was quick to compile and optimise the latest Linux kernel for both 32-bit and 64-bit variants of the operating system.

The Linux kernel 4.12 can simply be installed using one command line on the Linux Lite. You just need to execute the command “sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-4.12.0 linux-image-linuxlite-4.12.0 linux-firmware-image-linuxlite-4.12.0 -y” to begin with the installation. A single reboot after the execution will bring the new Linux world to your screen.

It is worth noting that since the new kernel version has not been fully optimised to use with proprietary Nvidia graphic drivers, you may experience some glitches on your Nvidia-powered system. You can, however, repair the drivers on your machine manually after installing the kernel.

Both the Linux Lite version 3.2 and 3.4 are compatible to receive the 4.12 upgrade. Bezencon recommends the users to back up their important files before proceeding with the installation process.
