SparkyLinux has received an update to v4.6. Codenamed Tyche, the latest Linux distribution is the first in its series to have the recently arrived Debian 9 “Stretch”.

Using the power of Linux kernel 4.9.30 in the background, SparkyLinux 4.6 has been synced with Debian 9 repositories. The home edition of the distro comes with the option to choose between Xfce and LXDE. Also, there are improved GTK+ apps and a bunch of new boot options.

The other noteworthy additions in the Linux distro are the new repository to install Wine-staging builds and support for Linux 4.10 and 4.11. The distro supports HTTPS for all SparkyLinux services and repositories.

Two boot options in line

There are particularly two new boot options. The first one, called Toram, is designed help users boot the whole live system into RAM, whereas the text mode runs Sparky within the text.

The latest SparkyLinux release has replaced the default Mozilla Thunderbird email client with an Icedove email client. Additionally, there is an in-house built tool to help users receive real-time notifications for software updates.

The live/install ISO images of SparkyLinux 4.6-STB are available to download. It is worth highlighting here that the development team of SparkyLinux was quick to promote their distro to the stable channel when Debian GNU/Linux 9 “Stretch” was moved to the stable channel.
