Oracle has released VirtualBox 5.0.40 and 5.1.22. The new maintenance updates are available for Linux, Windows and MacOS platforms.

Merely ten days after their previous releases, Oracle has brought the new VirtualBox versions. The new versions have a small yet valuable changelog. An important issue of rare hang and crash storage has been fixed through the upgrade. The issue was mainly occurred during file maintenance operations like disabling asynchronous I/O or merging of snapshots.

VirtualBox 5.0.40 and VirtualBox 5.1.22 have also fixed a software virtualisation problem on Solaris hosts. In addition, Oracle has repaired the regression on Linux hosts caused by ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) backend. The new releases can also easily load OpenGL libraries on specific hosts.

In the new range of changes, VirtualBox 5.1.22 has particularly addressed the problem with mount.vboxsf symlink. The regression was recorded from version 5.1.20. The regression related to VERR_IEM_INSTR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED Guru Meditation on Mac OS X hosts has also been fixed.

Besides, the reported potential storage crash in VirtualBox 5.0 series under rare circumstances like asynchronous I/O or merging of snapshots has been addressed in VirtualBox 5.0.40.

Both the latest versions of VirtualBox are available for download from the official VirtualBox website. The new releases are also open sourced under GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2.
