Fedora has decided to end support for its long-term supported Fedora 23. The year-old released distribution received its last security update earlier this week, and users are now recommended to upgrade to its newer versions.

“Upgrading to Fedora 24 or Fedora 25 before December 20, 2016, is highly recommended for all users still running Fedora 23,” reads the official statement.

Introduced back in November last year, Fedora 23 brought Linux 3.2 kernel and GNOME 3.18 desktop environment. It was the first Fedora distribution with a Cinnamon flavour. Also, the distribution quickly became popular as it brought native support for ARM-based systems.

Fedora was supporting the Fedora 23 project from the last thirteen months. So far, it received all the security updates and major features additions. You can find all the details of the release cycle and post-release support period on Fedora Project wiki.

With the retirement of Fedora 23, Fedora 24 has become the oldest supported project by the open source community. It will receive security updates, enhancements and bug fixes until June next year.
