Lenovo has ultimately introduced native Linux support for the latest Yoga and IdeaPad series notebooks. Previously, the company was in the news for abandoning anything other than Windows on its flagship notebook models.

To enable Linux installation, Lenovo has developed a BIOS solution that is compatible with the Yoga 900S, Yoga 900, IdeaPad 710S and IdeaPad 710S Plus. There is an AHCI (Advance Host Controller Interface) SATA controller mode to give a choice of installing Linux platform.

The change in BIOS is sufficient enough to enable developers to load Linux on their Lenovo notebooks. However, the company is still preferring Windows over the open source platform. “We do not intentionally block customers using other operating systems such as Linux on Lenovo Yoga or any other device. Lenovo consumer PCs are designed, tested, and optimized for Windows 10,” Lenovo said in a brief statement.

Linux on Lenovo systems came to focus when it had declared the limitations of Linux across all its fresh Yoga and IdeaPad devices. The Chinese company had claimed that the design and other advanced capabilities of Yoga series would not work with current Linux offerings. But it had launched a list of Linux-certified notebooks in the past.
