Nvidia is shifting the Open Secure AI Alliance to the Linux Foundation as a neutral home.
Nvidia is transitioning the Open Secure Artificial Intelligence (AI) Alliance it propounded (along with Cisco, HPE, IBM, and dozens of other firms) to the Linux Foundation. The Alliance, launched in July 2026, was built off the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and OpenSSF. The idea behind this collaboration is to collectively learn from AI incidents such as the recent hack of Hugging Face by rogue OpenAI agents – an occurrence that was instrumental in the Alliance’s formation.
With Hugging Face now a part of Nvidia’s growing AI ecosystem, handing over the Alliance to the Linux Foundation helps retain the open identity that the AI industry is now seeking to evolve as a counter to the closed-models hegemony of a few companies.
Under the Linux Foundation umbrella, the Open Secure AI Alliance will develop open source tools, shared standards, and defensive practices that help organisations inspect, audit, and secure AI systems.
The Linux Foundation says that under its influence, “this community can accelerate the development of shared, open security stack for AI.” According to SDx Central, this defensive stack includes initiatives like the shared AI findings Exchange (SAFE), which enables organisations to share threat intelligence and collectively bolster defences against emerging AI security risks.
The Linux Foundation touts AI security as a “shared challenge”. Facing it requires an open ecosystem where organisations can collaborate across vendors, platforms, and industries.
