Designed to reduce operational costs and accelerate innovation, the platform offers a lightweight, open-source telco cloud layer with validated designs and vendor-neutral APIs.

SUSE has announced the general availability of Adaptive Telco Infrastructure Platform (ATIP) 3.1. The new platform brings enhanced flexibility, manageability, and long-term support, offering telecom providers a reliable solution to streamline operations and enable faster innovation.

With rising operational pressures, telcos must optimise costs and accelerate revenue generation while managing advanced technologies like 5G workloads and broadband network functions at the edge. However, realising these edge-driven capabilities often presents technical hurdles.

The new platform addresses these challenges by providing a lightweight, open-source telco cloud layer to host virtualised and container-based network functions. This platform aims to help Communication Service Providers (CSPs) reduce operational costs, shorten innovation cycles, and expand into new industries. A unified container-as-a-service (CaaS) platform guarantees high performance, enabling telcos to deliver edge services to diverse customer segments reliably.

Aligned with the industry-wide Project Sylva, which fosters interoperability across telecom networks through open-source CaaS layers, the platform ensures seamless adoption of cloud-native technologies.

Key Features include:

  • Validated Designs: Offers pre-configured, optimised platforms supporting Intel and ARM systems, accelerating deployment.
  • Scalability & Automation: This solution simplifies full telco cloud stack deployment and operations with automated management tools and is backed by 24 months of long-term support.
  • Security & Compliance: Leverages risk management capabilities, ensuring robust security and compliance.
  • Edge-Ready Performance: A small-footprint, high-performance edge stack built from a decade of expertise in tier-1 networking.
  • Vendor-Neutral APIs: Supports GitOps-based management, ensuring seamless configuration and better return on investment.

The ATIP 3.1 platform has been available since October 1, 2024. “SUSE ATIP 3.1 equips CSPs to accelerate cloud migration with a unified stack, toolchain, and skillset,” said Keith Basil, General Manager of SUSE Edge. “This open, telco-optimized platform meets stringent telco workload requirements, offering flexibility for CSPs to integrate the best vendors for their cloud-native networks.”
