Open Invention Network (OIN) announced that Hon Hai Technology Group, known as Foxconn, has joined as a community member. Foxconn, a leading technological solution provider and the world’s largest electronics manufacturer reinforces its commitment to open-source principles. In the electronics and component industries, innovation in design and manufacturing drives progress. Open source technology plays a vital role, enabling companies to share foundational technology while focusing investments on unique features higher in the technology hierarchy. Keith Bergelt, CEO of Open Invention Network, noted, “Advances in design and manufacturing drive ongoing innovation. Open source technology is a key driver, allowing companies to share foundational technology while investing in differentiating features higher in the technology stack.”

Foxconn, known for its innovation in smart consumer electronics, cloud and networking equipment, computing devices, and components, sees its collaboration with Open Invention Network as a significant step. Mick Lim, Director of Foxconn IP Affairs Division, expressed their excitement, saying, “Foxconn continuously seeks ways to integrate advances into smart consumer electronics, cloud and networking equipment, computing devices, and components. We are pleased to join Open Invention Network and support its role in protecting open source.”

At the core of this collaboration is the commitment to patent non-aggression in core Linux and adjacent open-source technologies. OIN members, including Foxconn, engage in cross-licensing Linux System patents, fostering a collaborative environment without royalty constraints. Interested parties can become OIN members and sign the OIN license agreement online at http://www.j-oin.net/ to promote inclusivity. In this alliance, Open Invention Network and Foxconn share a vision for a future where open source thrives, innovation has no limits, and technology benefits society.
