Nexus Venture Partners led a $2.5 million seed funding round for ZITADEL, the creator of a transformative identity management platform. The funding will enable ZITADEL to provide developers with a much-needed open source alternative to meet their identity management needs, as well as scale its solution, sales, and community. The current market is dominated by well-known but closed-source players such as Auth0, Okta, Firebase, AWS Cognito, and others.
The founding vision of ZITADEL is to build a streamlined, cloud-native identity management platform to help software projects get to market faster. The platform ZITADEL turnkey solution provides developers with unprecedented flexibility by prioritising ease of integration, out-of-the-box self-service features, customizable and secure login supporting passwordless authentication, and an API-centric strategy.
Developers frequently devote countless hours to designing, configuring, and operating complex authentication and authorization systems. ZITADEL, which is primarily written in the Go programming language, solves these problems by providing simple integrations across multiple languages and frameworks. Because of this flexibility, developers can significantly increase their productivity by utilising pre-built functions provided by ZITADEL. Furthermore, ZITADEL’s capabilities help existing open source projects that were not designed for a cloud-native, serverless environment.
The ZITADEL team is working to improve the solution’s enterprise readiness level. Multi-tenant architecture, unlimited audit trails, enhanced self-hosting, and support for serverless deployments are among the new features, as is the ability to extend the reach of ZITADEL via Customization code written in WebAssembly. ZITADEL’s self-hosting capabilities, when combined with cloud-native architecture, enable privacy-conscious customers to own and control their data by running a dedicated version. ZITADEL’s flexible model is the go-to solution for many leading enterprise customers due to its array of connected efficiency enhancements.
The generous free tier of ZITADEL’s cloud-hosted offering allows anyone, without a credit card, to create an instance of ZITADEL in less than five minutes. ZITADEL Cloud offers the ability to define the country or geopolitical region in which data is stored as part of its ongoing commitment to provide GAAP support to its customers.
“In the context of today’s complex software projects, ZITADEL offers a turnkey solution allowing developers to easily get started with secure login, user management, multi-factor authentication, logins via social networks, management exceptional permissions and APIs. With ZITADEL, we provide an important component to improve the overall security of a project, while reducing time to market”, says Florian Forster, co-founder and CEO of ZITADEL.
“We are delighted to open new horizons in partnership with Florian and the ZITADEL team, our very first investment in a Swiss company. We believe that the future of digital entities will be passwordless. ZITADEL takes a open source that puts developers first in solving identity management. Its simple to easy-to-integrate building blocks help developers secure authentication in applications, without requiring deep in-house expertise or committing resources,” says Abhishek Sharma, managing director of Nexus Venture Partners. “ZITADEL is the newest addition to the Nexus family of more than a dozen prestigious open source commercial companies,” Sharma continues.
