According to a report by Betanews, Proton Technologies has made its VPN tool, ProtonVPN open source. The report said that the company added that it is not only releasing the source code but it has also conducted an independent security audit.

Open source more trustworthy than proprietary software

ProtonVPN was created by CERN scientists. The report said that Dr Andy Yen, founder and CEO of Proton said that VPN services can technically access very sensitive user data. For this reason, users should choose services that have a track record for transparency and security. He added that by publishing the code, the company hopes to demonstrate the commitment towards putting security and above everything.

Proton added that a contributing factor in going open source is that such software is more trustworthy than proprietary software. This is because it can be independently scrutinized and potential vulnerabilities can be quickly identified and resolved.
