- Renovate’s current commercial offerings will be available for free under the name WhiteSource Renovate
- WhiteSource Renovate will be integrated into the WhiteSource product portfolio
Open source security and license compliance management company, WhiteSource has acquired open-source dependency update solution Renovate. The company said that Renovate’s current commercial offerings will be available for free under its new name, WhiteSource Renovate which includes a GitHub app, a GitLab app and a self-hosted solution.
Rhys Arkins, founder of Renovate, said, “Renovate was developed because running user-facing applications with outdated dependencies is not a serious option for software projects today. It increases the likelihood of unfixed bugs and increases the quantity and impact of security vulnerabilities within software applications. With Renovate, you can automatically and efficiently keep dependencies up to date, integrating this process into any DevOps workflow.”
Renovate open source project
WhiteSource says it will continue to work on the Renovate open source project which currently has over 5,000 commitments from more than 150 contributors. WhiteSource Renovate will be integrated into the WhiteSource product portfolio which includes WhiteSource Core and WhiteSource for Developers.
Rami Sass, CEO of WhiteSource said, “By incorporating all of Renovate’s current commercial offerings into a free WhiteSource Renovate solution, and by maintaining the open source component, WhiteSource underscores its commitment to helping the software developer community more easily address open source management and security vulnerability challenges, so that developers can spend more time innovating and less time manually resolving security vulnerabilities or dependency updates.”
