This donation will further support the RISC-V Foundation’s mission in delivering future developments of open silicon and hardware implementations.

The RISC-V Foundation has received a donation of USD 5,000 from Arduino to advance the RISC-V ecosystem and efforts focused on open source hardware and software development.

As a non-profit corporation, the RISC-V Foundation is focused on driving the adoption and implementation of the free and open RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA) as well as fostering industry-wide collaboration.

This donation will further support the Foundation’s mission in delivering future developments of open silicon and hardware implementations.

“Mutual support is absolutely necessary for open source communities like ours. As we support one another, we become more effective in changing the way the industry works together and collaborates. Arduino’s contribution pushes us forward as we create a new kind of open hardware and software ecosystem,” said Calista Redmond, CEO of the RISC-V Foundation.

Arduino Co-Founder, Massimo Banzi, also highlighted that open source institutions and projects greatly depend on donations and community support.

“Our gift to the RISC-V Foundation is a token of our gratitude as we value the RISC-V ecosystem for its contributions to the open source community and we look forward to continuing to witness the growth of this ecosystem,” Banzi said.

Arduino to donate $50,000 to 10 organizations

Neary two months back, Banzi formally announced that Arduino is donating $50,000 to 10 organizations whose shared efforts make a difference for the worldwide open source community.

He made the announcement on May 18, 2019 in San Mateo, California at the Maker Faire Bay Area.

Founded in 2015, the RISC-V Foundation comprises more than 250 members. These members have access to and participate in the development of the RISC-V ISA specifications and related HW / SW ecosystem.
