Since EthVM Alpha is open-source, enables additional features and welcomes community collaboration, it is being considered as a rival for Etherscan.io.

MyEtherWallet (MEW), one of the major wallet providers for Ethereum (ETH), has recently announced the launch of its own native and new open-source ETH blockchain explorer tool, called EthVM Alpha, as part of its attempt to make blockchain more approachable.

EthVM Alpha will help new users understand the Ethereum network by granting users complete transparency. It will allow users to examine blockchain histories, balances and smart contracts.

Olga Kupchevskaya, Vice President of MEW, believes that an open source explorer like EthVM Alpha will not only encourage crypto-literacy among users but advance the ecosystem as a whole by making public blockchain data easily accessible for apps.

Since the code is open source, it will promote learning and community collaboration, she said.

Explaining why the tool was needed, she said, “The explosion of interest in cryptocurrencies in 2017 brought many new players to the blockchain space, but also bewildered many newcomers. What we need are open-source blockchain tools that can provide knowledge and resources to this growing community, in order to facilitate healthy technology development.”

Beware of bugs and errors! EthVM is still in its alpha state

MEW, however, has also warned that the new version of the EthVM is still in its alpha state, and could be liable to a few bugs and errors that had not been caught by its developing team.

Aldo Borrero, lead developer of EthVM Alpha, said, “Ethereum was built to be an open and a decentralized platform. EthVM Alpha honours the same core principles, and we’d like a global community to help us expand and improve this amazing project.”

Since EthVM Alpha is open-source, enables additional features and welcomes community collaboration, it is being considered as a rival for Etherscan.io.
