Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) is now challenging developers to create open source mobile and desktop video streaming apps that provides secure authentication, also address global security issues.

ONVIF is a global and open industry forum for facilitating the development and use of a global open standard for the interface of physical IP- based security products. It is a two month online challenge open to individuals and teams, is being run on BeMyApp platform where you can view tutorials to help you get started. You can also access live camera streams to test your app. Tutorials will be available for Apple, Windows and Android developers. Qualifying apps will be rewarded with a $250 Amazon gift card and other interesting cash prizes depending on working of the app.

Mandatory conditions to be met

An app must meet these three conditions to win the prize:-

  • The code should be open source
  • It must execute an innovative IP security solution
  • It should be able to connect to prototype cameras with Profile T functionality from Axis Communications, Bosch Security and safety systems, Dahua Technology, Hikvision and Uniview for the challenge

Along with these mandatory features it must support the use of H.264 and H.265 encoding formats, imaging setting and alarm events such as motion and tinkering detection. The device must support feature of on-screen display and metadata streaming.

How to prove that the app has required qualities

At the time of submission on BeMyApp, you must give URL as to where your app can be found. You need to summarise about your app in a nut shell and also what issue your app addresses. In addition to this, you can include some images and ‘How it works’ steps to enhance the description of your app.

Judgment criteria basis

the judgment would be based on innovation, code quality,usability and style UX. Other keypoints to be focused on are viability of implementation, functionality and whether the app is easy to navigate and use.

Innovation is all you need to grab the prize

The top three submissions by developers will be receiving $3000, $2,500 and $2000 respectively. Seven other finalists will each be reward $800 while all the qualifying developers will receive a reward of $250.

The deadline for the contest is June 3rd, 2018. For registration you need to provide your email address and other contact details after which you will get an invitation to contest within around 12 hours.
