DigitalOcean Spaces, a scalable object storage

Cloud infrastructure provider DigitalOcean has announced the release of its object storage solution called Spaces. The latest offering provides a scalable way to help developers fulfill their complex storage requirements through a convenient interface.

“Despite the technical complexity of launching a product like this, we’ve worked incredibly hard to ensure Spaces maintains the same ease-to-use and effortless UI as our other products. We wanted to simplify the way developers can innovate so they can spend time building great software,” said Ben Uretsky, CEO of DigitalOcean, in a press statement.

Spaces can act as an origin for content delivery networks and store user-generated content such as images and large media files directly from the Web. It also has support for several existing AWS S3 compatible tools and is available to current DigitalOcean users. Further, the files stored in Spaces are encrypted on physical disks with 256-bit AES-XTS technology.

Already tested by thousands of users

DigitOcean has built Spaces in response to thousands of requests it received from its developer community. Also, the pilot of the new solution is claimed to be tested by over 90,000 users.

You can leverage Spaces to have 250GB of storage and 1TB of outbound transfer for a price starting at US$4. Additional storage can be opted at a monthly rate of 2 cents per GB, while 1 cent per GB will be served out to the Internet.

Uploads of any size to Spaces are provided free. To encourage developers to start testing the solution, DigitalOcean is additionally giving away a free two-month trial for first sign up.
