August Android Security Update

Google has started rolling out the August security update for Android devices. The new update patches various vulnerability issues as well as includes several bug fixes and security issues.

The Android security team has addressed a total of 42 vulnerabilities through the latest update. While the 2017-08-01 package fixes as many as 28 issues, 2017-08-05 patch addresses 14 flaws. Also, there is Android 7.1.2 for Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

The most critical issue among the bulk is a flaw in the media framework of Android. The security vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code using a crafted file.

Google has published the Android Security Bulletin for August 2017 that talks about the severity of bugs addressed in the security patches. In addition to the latest Android files, the Nexus 9 (LTE) and Nexus 9 (WiFi) are set to receive Android 7.1.1 builds.
