The open source Debian project has released a security update to Debian GNU/Linux 8 Jessie. Emerges as 8.7, the latest Debian version fixes over 170 bugs and security issues.

“This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available,” the Debian project team writes in a statement.

Debian GNU/Linux 8.7 release includes a total of 173 updated packages. The update particularly addresses 87 bugs and 86 important security issues. In addition to the bug fixes and security tweaks, the updated Debian GNU/Linux comes with fresh components and applications.

Users who frequently install updates directly from the official security page on the Debian website need not update all the packages. However, if you are not among those users, you need to download the update from an up-to-date Debian mirror.
