Developers at Canonical are all set to optimise the experience on Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) with Linux 4.8 kernel. The new Ubuntu platform is currently under development, but its final version is expected to hit the market beginning next month.

All the beta versions of Ubuntu 16.10 are so far shipped with Linux 4.4 kernel. The same kernel is also powering Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system and the Ubuntu team tried to rebase the Yakkety Yak’s kernel with Linux 4.7 branch as well. However, the final release of the new Ubuntu version is likely to bring the newest Linux kernel.

Looking at the development cycle of Linux kernel 4.8, the developers behind the new version are apparently decided to wait before pushing stable repository to early adopters. Thus, the Linux community is expected to receive eight release candidates ahead of the ultimate release.

Earlier this week, Canonical brought the final beta build of Ubuntu 16.10. The newest beta version has borrowed some apps and components from GNOME 3.22 stack, while most of the remaining features are integrated from GNOME 3.20.2.
