Red Hat has upgraded its open infrastructure model by releasing Red Hat OpenStack Platform 9. This updated cloud platform delivers enhanced security and a more production-ready automated experience through Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.2.

To enable hybrid cloud management and monitoring, Red Hat OpenStack Platform 9 includes Red Hat Ceph Storage 2 and Red Hat CloudForms. The new version is touted to provide critical dependencies that clients often require while using production OpenStack environments with service functionality, third-party drivers, system performance and security.  Further, the development behind the platform is aiming to provide automated upgrade and update paths for mission-critical operations.

“As customers continue to require more advanced workloads capabilities on top of their OpenStack deployments, we have updated Red Hat OpenStack Platform to go beyond just providing a secure, flexible base to build a private cloud,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager of OpenStack, Red Hat, in a statement.

Connectivity via Red Hat CloudForms enables Red Hat OpenStack Platform 9 to inherently discover, monitor and inspect various OpenStack resources. The deployment of Red Hat Ceph Storage, on the other hand, takes the OpenStack platform to new levels and enhances its free object and block storage.

Additionally, the latest Red Hat OpenStack Platform features most of the significant updates that were debuted on the Mitaka version of pure OpenStack. It enables deployment upgrades through automation and validation mechanisms of the Red Hat OpenStack Platform Director. There is also an upgraded Compute component with improved live migration process and a new CPU pinning feature.

Utilising its existing partnership with Google, Red Hat offers a Google Cloud Storage backup driver within the updated OpenStack platform. This lets customers easily take backups of their important data right on the Google Cloud.

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 9 is a collaborative effort by Red Hat and its partners including Dell and Intel. It is targeted to accelerate deployment of clouds across businesses worldwide.
