The open source community is now all set to say a formal goodbye to Linux kernel 3.14 LTS. With the new announcement, the version 3.14.79 has emerged as the last maintenance update for the old kernel.

Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman has announced “end of life” for the 3.14 kernel series. “The 3.14y kernel series is now end-of-life,” Kroah-Hartman said in the Linux Kernel Mailing List.

Users are recommended to use the kernel 4.4 LTS instead of the old release. Kroah-Hartman stated the 4.4 LTS series would last for another year from now.

Apart from recommending users to use the advanced kernel release, Kroah-Hartman has announced Linux kernel 3.14.79 as the last maintenance update for the 3.14 kernel series. This new version includes changes in 12 files of the platform and fixes minor bugs such as a networking issue related to the Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) protocol. Also, there are some network driver updates to support the recent hardware lineup.

Users can download the 3.14.79 version directly from the Kernel website.
