While you might be waiting for an Android Marshmallow update for your device, Google is now apparently all set to deliver the latest experience through Android 7.0 Nougat. A leak has surfaced online to suggest the release date of the new Android operating system for August 22.
As spotted by 9to5Google, Canadian carrier Telus revealed that Android Nougat would be released for the Nexus 5X and 6P beginning August 22. Telus Forums includes a list to detail software update schedules for various devices.
Alongside the new Android for the newest Nexus devices, some general security updates are reported to be released for Nexus 5, 6 and some Samsung devices. However, the big news is certainly related to Android Nougat.
Developer preview already available
Last month, Google released Android 7.0 Developer Preview 5 to let developers experience the new features ahead of the formal release. OEMs like Huawei and LG also started their limited consumer trails to deliver the fresh feel on their flagship offerings.
Schedule ‘subject to change’
Although Telus Forums was accurate at the time of Marshmallow release last year, the update schedule carries a note that highlights some uncertainty. The note reads, “All dates are approximate and subject to change.”
Nougats for the public
Following the release of Android Marshmallow last month, it was quite confirmed that its successor would be codenamed Android N. In July, Google officially announced that the new version would be known as Nougat. This platform brings a new JIT compiler for developers as well as offers 3D rendering API Vulkan.
For the end users, Android Nougat will come with Daydream integration, enhanced Doze mode and Data Saver function. The platform will also feature multi-window support to answer custom Android ROMs.
