Microsoft has released a new update for its Windows 10 that allows you to use Linux-based Docker natively on your system. Targeted to developers, the new Windows build also brings some noticeable improvements for Ubuntu Bash.

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14361 comes with Hyper-V Container to let you build, ship and run Docker containers. It utilises Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 5 Nano Server. Additionally, the Redmond giant has provided a new version of the Docker engine for Windows that brings extensive container support and improves the DockerFile syntax.

You just need to enable the preloaded Hyper-V feature to use Docker on your Windows 10 machine. This can be done through PowerShell.

Tmux support for improved Bash on Ubuntu experience

Apart from the new Docker compatibility, Microsoft has added Pseudo Terminal support to Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) to enable Windows Insiders with an improved Bash on Ubuntu. The operating system also has Tmux support to upgrade the open source-influenced experience.

To extend the presence of Bash on Ubuntu, your Windows 10 machine now comes with a case sensitive DrvFs. You can also delete or chmod read-only files from DrvFs directly from your desktop. Additionally, there is an optimised command line arg structure that allows you to input extremely long argument list.

Initially exclusive to devs

You need to sign up for the Windows Insider programme to download the newly released Windows 10 build. However, the new features would also reach its public release sometime in the coming future.
