AntiX 16.2 debuts as systemd-free distro based on Debian 8.8 Jessie

AntiX with no systemd

Linux distribution AntiX has announced a new update. Dubbed AntiX 16.2, the new platform is based on recently released Debian 8.8 Jessie that abandoned systemd totally. –customized Linux 4.4.10 LTS kernel.

AntiX 16.2 is yet another release that is systemd-free after the first final release of Devuan. Debian 8.8 uses systemd init system by default. However, AntiX has modified the built-in Debian to ship a systemd free version.

Customised Linux kernel

In addition to the systemd-free experience, the development team behind AntiX has customised Linux 4.4.10 kernel with a fbcondecor splash. The release comes in three flavors that support both 32-bit and 64-bit machines. There is AntiX, AntiX-base and AntiX-core-libre that include support IceWM, Fluxbox, JWM and Herbstluftwm windows manager.

The latest AntiX release includes LibreOffice 4.3.3-2, Claws Mail 3.13.0, SMTube 17.1.0, Firefox 52.2.0 ESR, GNOME MPlayer, eudev and XMMS. Also, a streamlight-antix tool is included in the build to flawlessly run on systems with lower RAM usage.

Existing users of the antiX 16 series can simply update their systems to get a hands-on experience of all the new goodies. Further, new users can download the new AntiX directly from its official website.
