Linux kernel 3.18 receives 52nd maintenance update

Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman has pushed the 52nd maintenance update to Linux 3.18 kernel series. Linux kernel 3.18.52 brings CIFS and F2FS filesystem changes and various other improvements.

The latest update brings a total of 97 files, 346 deletions and 741 insertions. There are many small changes as well as improvements to ARM, ARM64, MIPS, x86, SPARC and PowerPC architectures.

Also, the platform has new sound and networking stacks and enhancements for CIFS, EXT4, Btrfs, F2FS, 9p, Ceph, OCFS2, ReiserFS, NFS, XFS and HFS+ filesystem.

Core kernel update

The core kernel within the latest update has additionally received some notable changes. There is an updated driver stack that brings performance improvements to ISDN, media, MD, MTD, PCI, TTY, SCSI and USB drivers.

Linux 3.18 kernel branch is marked as “end of life” on the kernel.org website for a long time. However, the kernel maintainer keeps on pushing large patches with bug fixes.
