Oracle has released the 12th maintenance update to Virtual Box 5.1 series. The open source computer virtualisation software brings several bug fixes, improvements and much-awaited support for Linux kernel 4.10.

VirtualBox 5.1.12 comes with a bunch of new things for Linux users. There is an improved GUI and tweaked build of its storage, E1000 and virtual machine manager (VMM). Additionally, Oracle has added initial support for upcoming Linux 4.10 as well as better compatibility with Linux kernel 4.9.

Although the old Linux 2.6 kernel series is no longer supported, the newest VirtualBox version is compatible with it. The official release note also reveals that the software can automatically disable asynchronous I/O on Linux 2.6.18 kernels to reduce the load.

Besides, Virtual Box 5.1.12 has fixed a lot of known bug. It packs with patches for Debian/Linux 7 Wheezy series to enable a 3D feature.

You can download the VirtualBox 5.1.12 build from Oracle’s official website. It is a recommended update on systems running VirtualBox 5.1.10 or any previous versions.
