SUSE and Fujitsu open source cloud partnership

SUSE and Japanese ICT company Fujitsu have announced their strategic alliance to expand the existing space of the open source cloud. This partnership will bring some advanced hybrid cloud, next-generation cloud infrastructure and mission-critical solutions to the market.

“Our collaboration now moves beyond a go-to-market solutions strategy to development and open source community activities. We put to use the technology and track record we have cultivated over the years to support customers’ mission-critical systems, utilising the latest open source solutions in both on-premise and cloud,” said Yoshiya Etou, vice president of Linux development division, platform software BU, Fujitsu, in a joint statement.

SUSE and Fujitsu are aiming to release as many as five joint strategic initiatives and three solutions from their alliance. Ultimately, this move will provide new enterprise offerings with greater flexibility to enable on-premise environments including SUSE to open source-based public and private cloud.

“We have worked together for many years, and what we are announcing today takes our relationship to a truly strategic and global partnership around mission-critical and hybrid cloud solutions that will solve business issues for our customers,” stated Phillip Cockrell, SUSE vice president of global alliances.

Apart from building new solutions, the latest announcement will enable customers in the open source market to leverage Fujitsu’s digital business platform MetaArc that includes solutions for the cloud, mobility, IoT, Big Data analytics and artificial intelligence.

Tokyo-headquartered Fujitsu is planning to roll out MetaArc internationally. Its deal with SUSE would help achieve its plan in the coming future.
