IBM has finally planned a community-driven future of its Watson IoT Platform. Months after being in development through some in-house developers, the Internet of Things (IoT) offering is now available as free and open.

To target mass-level of contributions, IBM has announced its Watson IoT Consulting Solutions. This new model will include more than 1,500 industry experts that will work from IBM Watson IoT headquarters in Munich, Germany and eight other IoT centres across Asia, Europe and the US.

IBM is set to offer the key Watson IoT Platform APIs and technologies such as cognitive, analytics, mobile and security capabilities to developers to enhance developments towards connected devices. Also, the company has plans to employ skilled consultants, data scientists and design and security experts through the IBM Watson IoT Consulting Solution practice. This will guide various client organisations in designing IoT adoption challenges.

“Clients can now easily introduce IoT innovation into their business by leveraging IBM’s industry and technical expertise to deliver lower risk, as-a-service commercial models,” said Jesus Mantas, general manager, business consulting, IBM, in a statement.

IBM is working with over 50,000 developers worldwide to bring them to the IBM Watson IoT. The free access is one of the initial efforts by the PC maker, tough it also offers IoT education courses and a large number of learning tutorials through its Watson IoT Academy.
