Google has upgraded its Android Compatibility Definition document for Android Nougat. Through this document, the search giant reveals some major developments towards a unified Android platform for future.

The 85-page document details Google’s plans for Android original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). It highlights that the company is set to use Android extensions to provide an easy app updating model. These Android extensions will contain a library of the latest AOSP code that will be delivered directly to the device through Play Store. Apps will also include the bundle of APIs by Google to automatically enable updates.

In addition the future of Android apps, the document talks about unification in proprietary charging standards. Google is apparently not so happy with OEMs using proprietary charging methods on their devices. Therefore, we might see all USB Type-C OEM devices supporting full interoperability with standard Type-C chargers in future.

Google has clarified that Android Nougat does not require a chipset capable of using Vulcan APIs. Also, OEMs cannot implement any other multi-window support than AOSP version. However, OEMs can choose not to apply for multi-window support if they wish.

Apart from these important rules, the compatibility paper mentions provision for call blocking, updated specs for Android Auto stereos and package manager specifications.

This is not the first time when Google has released a document containing rules for Android developments. In fact, it regularly offers compatibility definitions to Android OEMs to set rules for latest platform versions.
