Ian Morrison of Linuxium was quite prompt in expanding Ubuntu 16.10 and thus, added support for Intel Bay Trail and Cherry Trail processors. The new Ubuntu platform was released earlier this week with Unity 8 preview and Snapd 2.16.

It is often reported that Intel Bay Trail and Cherry Trail SoCs-powered mini PCs result in issues on Linux-based operating systems. Therefore, Morrison has come up with the new solution. He created the ISO images of the latest Ubuntu version that support HDMI, WiFi, Bluetooth on Intel compute sticks as well as computer systems with Atom Bay Trail and Cherry Trail processors. Even, he configured the ISOs to run on both 32 and 64-bit bootloader with an easy dual-boot option without interfering with BIOS modifications.

“By combining recent patches and source code and porting them with Ubuntu kernel source, I have created ISO images that fully support HDMI audio, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on Intel compute sticks… I have also configured the ISOs to both run and install using either a 32-bit or 64-bit bootloader to provide the ability to easily dual-boot without needing to modify the BIOS,” writes Morrison, in a blog post.

You can try Ubuntu 16.10 on your device by preparing a bootable USB flash drive with Rufus or other similar tools. Additionally, Linuxium has published the images for alternative Ubuntu flavors like Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu MATE. An alternate manual patching process is also available to let you download and install the script to update the kernel.

It is worth noting that you will have to install Wi-Fi firmware files on Bay Trail devices manually.
