Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak final beta

Canonical has released the final beta version of Ubuntu 16.10 ahead of its public release. This new beta build includes the awaited Linux 4.8 kernel to deliver an upgraded computing experience.

As reported last week, Canonical has added the upcoming Linux kernel to Ubuntu 16.10 final beta. This has uplifted the previous 4.4 kernel version and brought an improved Linux environment that supports the latest hardware with Intel Skylake processors. Also, there are new features and several bug fixes to enhance Ubuntu’s presence.

“Codenamed ‘Yakkety Yak,’ 16.10 continues Ubuntu’s proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution,” reads the official announcement.

Apart from the Ubuntu desktop, server and cloud offerings, the newest beta release includes images for Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Mate and Ubuntu Studio flavours.

It appears that Linux 4.8 kernel is initially limited to Ubuntu system. However, the upgraded Linux is likely to be available across all open source images in the coming days.

Meanwhile, you can install Ubuntu 16.10 final beta on your system to experience the features of the upcoming kernel. You could else wait for the public release of Ubuntu 16.10 that would debut as early as October 13.
