An active community is a key to the success of open source software. And to actively maintain coordination between the community, its corresponding members need to sit together and discuss their various developments. Thus, the open source community often conducts events all around the world.
Instead of giving an overview of all the global gatherings, we are here featuring the top six open source events that take place in India. These are the events where you can catch not just software developers but also meet with many open source enablers and put your doubts to rest.
Open Source India
Open Source India is Asia’s leading open source event and perhaps the oldest one in this list. Started as Linux Asia in 2004, the convention is aimed to bring together the open source industry and the community. It is conducted in the Silicon Valley of India — Bengaluru — and is backed by our parent company EFY Group.
The 13th edition of Open Source India will be hosted on October 21-22 this year. It will feature some of the world’s renowned software developers, IT managers and CXOs who all are favouring the adoption of open source. Alongside multiple tech talks, several workshops will also be held at the event.
Years after hosting a one-day track on OpenStack developments at Open Source India, EFY Group has this time planned the OpenStack India. This first of its kind event will be co-located with Open Source India at NIMHANS Convention Centre in Bengaluru on October 21.
OpenStack India is aimed to bring various developers, consumers and administrators under one roof. It is also a perfect place if you want to get started with an OpenStack deployment for your next project.
OpenDaylight Forum India
The Linux Foundation inaugurated its OpenDaylight Forum India last year to start helping the networking industry. The event is targeted to embrace the open source OpenDaylight SDN platform.
The second edition of OpenDaylight Forum India will take place in Bengaluru on November 16-17. It will sport some technical presentations on the latest version of ODL and Beryllium and host different discussions related to next-generation Boron.
GopherConIndia is targeted to all those developers who want to learn about Google’s open source Go language. This conference is hosted by the Go Language Community in India in partnership with the Emerging Technology Trust (ETT).
The third edition of GopherConIndia is scheduled for February 24-25. It will bring various international speakers to a single-track structure to let developers attend various conference sessions in a short span of time.
Open Source Summit
Open Source Summit is a place to discuss various classic and essential open source subjects such as cloud computing, data and Internet of Things. Unicom Learning organises the Summit in Bengaluru where several tutorials, demonstrations and invited talks are carried together.
This year’s Open Source Summit was held on February 5. Topics like security, privacy and mobility were conducted.
PyCon India is specifically conducted on major developments of Python language. This conference is hosted annually by the Python developer community in the country.
Workshops at this year’s PyCon India will be held on September 23, while the conference with a variety of speakers will be accommodated on September 24-25. Both the tracks will take place in New Delhi.
With all these events, open source developments are no longer a dream in India. Starting from students to software developers and system administrators to IT managers, all can be a part of these conventions and learn the evolution and future of open source.
