Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.3

To expand the use of containers on various cloud deployments, Red Hat has released Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.3. The new container platform supports the development of both cloud-native and traditional applications and enhances enterprise scalability as well as workflow automation.

Red Hat is aiming to provide users faster deployment of modern applications over multiple infrastructures. Thus, the new OpenShift Container Platform uses Docker and Kubernetes 1.3. The latest release also brings Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 to give “stability, reliability and security” through the enterprise-centric open source platform.

“The latest updates to the platform enable customers to more fully make use of their container technology investments and better embrace a DevOps methodology,” said Ashesh Badani, vice president and general manager of OpenShift, Red Hat, in a statement.

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.3 comes preloaded with Jenkins Pipeline to continuously offer improved A/B testing automation using granular control of application routing configurations. For enabling deployments at cloud-scale, the container platform now supports up to 1,000 nodes per computing cluster.

As security is so far a big concern for businesses opting Linux container solutions, Red Hat has provided some security-focused features to the Docker container runtime — integrated with Security Enhance Linux to enable multi-tenant security. The Red Hat platform additionally includes registry enhancements to let developers securely register their projects. Further, there is integrated user authorisation and roles-based access controls for Kubernetes that work with enterprise LDAP-system.

Red Hat has included its OpenShift Container Local along with the Red Hat Container Developer Kit, Red Hat OpenShift Container Lab, OpenShift Online and OpenShift Dedicated to offer full-fledged containers-as-a-service to developers.

The newest Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is available on public, hybrid and private clouds. It will go live for download beginning September 27. Red Hat is also set to deliver a similar experience on OpenShift Online and OpenShift Dedicated platforms soon after the initial release.
