Microsoft Windows Server Datacenter

To influence VMware customers to opt for its Hyper-V, Microsoft has announced a new migration offer. The new move gives away Windows Sever Datacenter licenses for free to the ones who switch to Windows Sever 2016 Datacenter from a VMware solution.

Customers need to pay for Software Assurance that includes new product version rights, deployment planning, technical and end-user training and support. The offer runs from September 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017.

For participating in the VMware migration offer, customers need to identify their virtual workloads and specify the required Windows Sever Datacenter cores for their deployment. It is worth noting that the software giant will not initiate migration process by its own. Also, customers are required to provide the proof of eligibility their account executive.

Microsoft is launching the Microsoft vs VMware TCO comparison tool to differentiate the software requirements for Windows Sever 2016 Datacenter, System Center 2016 Datacenter and Operations Management Suite with vCloud Suite, vSAN, NSX and vCloud Air Disaster Recovery.

Windows Sever 2016 and System Center 2016 will be launched in September. These new solutions will come with security features like Shielded Virtual Machines, Just Enough and Just in Time Administration as well as software-defined datacentre capabilities including Rolling OS Cluster Upgrades, Storage Spaces Direct, Storage Replica, Azure Data Plane and Distributed Firewall.
