Microsoft debuted at LinuxCon this year with few of its offerings for the open source world. Alongside demonstrating its interest for the Linux community, the Redmond giant announced the preview release of its OMS (Operations Management Suite) Docker Container monitoring.

Originally showcased at DockerCon in June, OMS Docker Container monitoring is aimed to offer developers visibility on their own container inventory, performance and logs directly from one place. Microsoft’s open source leader Wim Coekaerts said that the new solution provides a “simplified view” of containers’ usage. There are also options to diagnose issues on the performance of containers whether they are running in the cloud or on-premises.

Microsoft is giving a centralised approach to let developers monitor their containers using its OMS solution. This move could set the stage for the final release of the OMS that was unveiled recently to manage containers across Microsoft Azure and Azure Stack.

Last week, Microsoft launched the OMS Monitoring Agent to provide rich insights and real-time visibility into Linux workloads. That solution was an extension of the company’s ongoing approach to please its Linux audience.

Coekaerts mentioned during his keynote at the LinuxCon that Linux accounts for 40 percent of the entire Azure cloud deployment. Microsoft has products like .Net Core, SQL Server and PowerShell on the open source platform.
