While Android is disrupting the smartphone market with its advanced features and massive app support, Google is apparently working on a new open source operating system to get bigger. Codenamed Fuchsia, the new platform is already existing in Google’s repositories.

The file that exists in the repositories does not include any source code. However, it suggests the development of a new operating system through a line that reads, “Pink + Purple == Fuchsia (a new Operating System).”

If we dig into a documentation of kernel Magenta, which also features within the repositories of the search giant and is seemingly powering Fuchsia, we can cook a story about the new development. The documentation reveals that the platform “targets modern phones and modern personal computers with fast processors, non-trivial amounts of RAM with arbitrary peripherals doing open-ended computation”.

The kernel behind the new open source platform is designed to interact with OS resources via object handles. Thus, it works as an object-based kernel.

Further, the kernel currently boots on Intel NUCs with Broadwell and Skylake chips. It is likely to be available to development boards like Raspberry Pi in addition to mobile devices.

Google has not revealed any details about its new open source operating system. That being said, it could soon be launched as a development project.
