Canonical has released a new update for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to patch as many as eight major Linux kernel vulnerabilities. The update does not bring any noticeable change to the open source operating system but fixes certain kernel flaws.

The vulnerabilities were located in the upstream Linux 4.4 LTS kernel branch. Developers spotted that the security flaws move from an absent permission check and information leak to a vulnerable TCP implementation and race condition in the MIC VOP driver. Additionally, it was discovered that the Linux kernel could result in a denial of service due to mishandling of transactional memory state on exec() and a heap-based buffer overflow within the USB HID driver.

Apart from the latest Ubuntu platform, Canonical has launched security updates for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Both the versions have received updated Linux kernels to fix their existing security issues.

You can download the updated Ubuntu package for your system directly from the Security Upgrades page on the Ubuntu site. Once the download is completed, you just need to reboot the system to implement the necessary changes.
