The new update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS patches 19 vulnerabilities and brings an all-new Linux kernel version.

Canonical has released a major new kernel update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system. The new update patches 19 vulnerabilities within the Linux kernel of Ubuntu’s Precise Pangolin build.

Ubuntu Security Notice USB-2967-1 reveals the new kernel update. It comes under version linux-image-3.2.0-102 (3.2.0-102.142) and is designed for hardware architectures such as 64-bit, 32-bit, PowerPC (PPC) and ARM HighBank as well as ARM OMAP.

Although Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was originally released in April 2012, Canonical keeps on supporting the platform due to its “Long Term Support” version. It was the first Ubuntu release to receive official support for five years.

How to install new kernel update

You can the new kernel update on your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS running system directly through the Unity Dash. Simply search for the Software Update utility and then click ‘Install All’ button to make all the patches applied to your system. You need to reboot your system to apply the update.
