Raspberry Pi 3

Google is apparently in plans to bring its Android operating system to Raspberry Pi 3 in the coming future. To give a hint about the development, the search giant has created a new device tree in its Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository.

The repository shows a space for the latest Raspberry Pi model. However, the officially supported source code is yet to be filled and the Pi 3 device tree features a comment that reads, “initially empty repository”.

Competitive move by Google

Deploying Android on Raspberry Pi seems to be the need of the hour for Google to take on Microsoft and Canonical as both already have their special operating system versions for the credit card-sized computer. Microsoft recently developed a Windows 10 IoT core version for the Raspberry Pi 3. Likewise, several Linux distributions are also specifically designed for the new ARM board.

The public repository is weeks old. But considering the forthcoming I/O conference, Google could please its developer audience by announcing the first source code release for the Raspberry Pi 3.

Meanwhile, you can build new projects on your Raspberry Pi using the available Debian-based Raspbian or some other operating systems.
